So. Lately.

I cut my hair off.
picture )

I'm making big changes in my life, for the better. Working on becoming a more independent person, working on overcoming some long-standing personal issues, and working on liking myself more.

Last night I dreamed of dead animals. Dead pigs, dead fish, and a dead turtle.

Some things I've found:
- Dead animals represent a change in your personal situation
- Dead fish can represent a fear of losing love
- Dead fish either in their natural habitat or in a market are an omen of disappointment or discouragement
- Finding a dead turtle means that you are losing a good friend through someone's fault. Killing a turtle denotes that you will lose someone's support.

So there's that.

How are all of you?

things Richmonders use for sleds:
inner tubes
air mattresses
plastic bins
cardboard boxes
stolen metal signs
trash can lids
bikes
pool floats
shoes
Chrome bags
skateboard decks
boogie boards
other Richmonders
anything doused in cooking spray
and, sometimes, actual sleds

all observed firsthand today.

So, I had to submit a response paper for a class on Blackboard.

Apparently, I submitted a lolcat instead of my paper. This lolcat, actually:

I got an email from my prof saying that while she appreciates the sentiment, she can't accept my paper. So I come into class today a little confused, having no idea I had submitted it wrong, and she was like "Yeahhh... you submitted a lolcat instead of your paper. The one with the cat and the banana. And it was funny and all but I kinda need your actual paper..."

thank god it was for a class with a cool prof, hahahahaha.

New Year's Resolutions, in case anyone cares (in no particular order):

1. Keep a numbered list of all the books I read, and try to write reviews of most of them.
2. Lose 15 lbs by June 1
3. Start exercising in SOME way - preferably yoga
4. Raise my GPA to 3.8 or higher, from 3.73
5. Remember to call and talk to my dad at least once a week
6. Cook dinner for Skylar at least once a week
7. Reduce the number of times we go out to eat to twice a week or less
8. Hang out with people other than Skylar at least once a week
9. Paint, draw, journal, play piano or engage in some other form of creative expression at least three times a month
10. Send a card, postcard, or letter to any friend or relative at least twice a month

What are your resolutions?

So this makes me feel kind of spoiled (my family totally spoils me and my brother on Christmas), but everyone else seems to be doing it, so here's what I got )

My family rocks.

So obviously I'm going to be baking like a fiend next week - anyone want to come over and hang out/bake with me? :D

Went to the Nerdcore Tour show tonight at JMU in Harrisonburg. It was a hike, but Skylar and our friend Luke came along and it was pretty awesome. Our friend Tiff organized the show, so she let us in early and we got to chill. There were only like 30 people there, but everyone there was very happy to be there.

Here's some videos I took!

MC Lars and ytcracker - "Surgerunner"

MC Frontalot - "It is Pitch Dark"

so tonight, Skylar and I went down to Petersburg to hang out with his dad. His dad's cousin, Phillip Roebuck, used to be in a band called the Hollowbodies (you've heard some of their songs - "she's my queen and, I'm her little king"), and now he does this one-man band thing which is pretty ridiculously awesome. He played tonight at the Dixie, the diner that Skylar's dad's girlfriend owns, and I took some video of the show - check it out!

More videos on my YouTube account! :)

[info]roguebelle, my list you were asking about is under the second cut. :)

Okay, so, apparently I enjoy punishing myself, because I just finished reading Twilight.

Aside from the terrible fanfiction style of the writing, the lack of much recognizable plot, and the idiocy of the heroine, I have some serious moral problems with the book as well.

LOTS of problems. )

Excerpts. )

Lastly, some links.
A rather excellent and extensive summary (I would call it a parody, but... it's too accurate) of the whole book

A brilliantly written review that I agree with every single part of

A catalog of the number of times various elements are used in the story, like number of times Edward is referred to as 'godlike.'

There's a running joke in Skylar's family about his dog running for president, spawned from a time when his little sister made everyone vote for Hazel for the title of Best Pet Ever, running against... nobody else. Anyway, the joke has produced Vote For Hazel shirts, etc., and this year may be my crowning achievement in a long line of awesomeness.

Vote for Hazel! )

Oh my GAWD that took so long to do.

Reason #68 why I love living by the school of music:
There is a big group of horn players in the park right by my house, playing the theme song to the Office. All on horns. It's awesome.

I really want to thank everyone for their kind words on my last post, I can't tell you guys how much it means to me to have awesome supportive friends like ya'all. Seriously, it helped a lot.

I go to Ohio on Nov. 1 for the funeral.

Also, I caved and got a Twitter. My username is auto_de_fe, please add me if you're on Twitter. :)

Since I've been posting weird things about myself lately, here's another one, just for kicks.

I love Martha Stewart.

Seriously. I read her blog on an almost daily basis, I watch videos on YouTube, etc. etc.

I have no idea why. Something about the way she writes just cracks me up. When writing a memorial post for her Chow Chow, "Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow" (Paw Paw for short), she says in a caption for a picture that "Paw Paw in the pachysandra one week before he died. He loved walking through soft green ground covers."

I love that. That is so Martha. WHO ELSE writes that their dog loved the pachysandra?!

I also love how she's totally unapologetic for how ridiculously wealthy she is. She writes about how she just loves to ride one of her prize-winning Friesian horses over to a nearby inn for a spot of brunch with her fabulously rich friends. And about how she has like six million impeccably decorated houses.

Martha Stewart: It's a Good Thing. x)
